Another Unfortunate Juxtaposition of the Day: A funeral home in Consett, County Durham asked Clear Channel to remove an ad for The Walking Dead — Frank Darabont’s critically acclaimed zombie TV series — that was placed on its wall.
“It is disappointing that we were not consulted as this advert could cause unnecessary distress,” a Co-operative Funeralcare spokesman is quoted as saying.
A yet another early warning goes unheeded.

April Fools Day Winner of the Day: As the dust settles on April Fools Day 2011, a clear champion has emerged: Fox 5 News anchor Raoul Martinez managed to cleverly convince his co-host Shally Zomorodi, during a live morning newscast, that a new iPhone/iPad app would allow her to taste and smell the images on the screen.

Needless to say, the snozberries did not taste like snozberries, and an instant classic was born.

Ubuntu switching to Unity..?

Since a about the time I started my freshmen year in highschool I’ve been big into Linux as an alternate desktop. As time went by I slowly transitioned into using Linux as my main for everyday things. Ubuntu has been my choice of Distribution.

—In case you are new to the Linux scene. There isn’t really a “linux” OS out there. There are “Distributions” these all run on the basic principle of Linux but each look a bit different and run a bit different. This has been an issue for a long time, as people new to linux get confused as to which commands go to which linux OS. —

Ubuntu though has a very large community of developers and just ordinary everyday people who use it. This has brought Ubuntu to par with Windows and Mac in the past year. Recently Ubuntu has decided to change its direction and use a different shell.

— When speaking of a computer shell it is kind of like a turtle shell. Its a front end User interface. On windows this would be the desktop, Icons, start menu, Windows button, windows bar and side bar. Its the part that makes the nice windows open on your computer. —

The shell that Ubuntu has adopted is called Unity. Unity looks like it would be nice for a Netbook but not for a full desktop computer. It has a low profile but also it’s hard to understand. It took me some time browsing my netbook to find an Image file using Unity.

Unity

Gnome on the other hand was the Shell Ubuntu has used for the past couple of years now. Gnome is close to releasing Gnome3, which comes with much more advancements. The gnome desktop in a pinch is like that of the Windows Shell that everyone is familiar with. The difference is that with Gnome you can customize the look and feel to a much further idea than with the windows Shell or Mac.

Gnome

Ubuntu has really made me and a good number of its community upset with this recent change. Hopefully they hear our cries and change around back to using Gnome.

Update

So that whole me planning on building furniture thing hasn’t worked out so well. See mother nature here in Ohio says that the weather has to be Bi-polar and switch on us every day. So working in the garage turns out to be difficult with people moving vehicles in and out plus the cold weather. In return I shall get to work on my Blogging about what I’m learning in class :D

Too bad you need a government to tell not to eat fast food and deep fried cheese. Of course when you have heart disease, you’ll be screaming for free health care because you couldn’t take care of yourself.January 27th, 2008, 2:37 pm

Yea… they forced you to.

Do you really think your free? Free when you walk into McDonalds, or the Supermarket, a dealership, a wal-mart? You’re only free to make the choices they give you. One must eat, what is on the menu… or within the supermarket… one has no more or no less choices then what cars the government approves for you to buy from, or what items appear in a department store.

I cannot sit here and explain the psychological, and physical bonds a government such as ours place upon it’s citizens.

I could half way accept it, if the majority of people understood this… it’s the fact that most people believe they’re free, only because they’ve been told it, only because they’ve never questioned it, that make someone like me question how un-free we actually are.January 27th, 2008, 4:07 pm

((cafe)) So according to this person, here in America its our governments fault that people eat fattening food. We do have the freedom of choice to pick out healthy things. Instead of going to McD’s go to subway. Or even better instead of getting fast food go grocery shopping.. —-But-According to this person even at a store such as walmart. Our free will is taken away because they lay donuts and chips in front of us?  I beg to differ. People need to learn to say no by THEMSELVES and go grab some tasty fresh veggies and buy healthier choices. I blame Americas ever growing obesity on the fact that people resort to a quicker meal rather than taking the time to cook something better. Example: my mother goes to walmart and buys hamburger helper or tv dinners or pre-made fried chicken.. All of which contain really high fat and calorie counts. On the other hand when I go shopping which more and more I am making my own dinners for obvious reasons. I buy things like green peppers white rice, lean meat and much more RAW ingredients. So that I can cook up something that doesn’t have tons of added sugars to make it taste better or saturated fats. People are getting fat because of their own lazy-ness.      ((End Rant))
